- Open HTTP XML Search API -Back to All Web Service Interfaces
XML API users using web pages to display results must provide
attribution for search results back to Searchhippo. One easy way to do
this would be to provide a link back to
http://www.searchhippo.com/ with the text
"Powered by SearchHippo.com" on all pages
you produce that contain a result set from us. Below is sample HTML for
producing this:
The basic link you provide to your back-end looks like:
http://www.searchhippo.com/qxml.php?q=[user query]
This will return back an XML document which contains the results for
the query submitted by the user. Here is a sample call:
http://www.searchhippo.com/qxml.php?q=john+milton
Depending on your browser, you might need to "view source" on this document
to see what it actually looks like.
Here is the corresponding DTD:
So, in a nutshell:
- You host the query form.
- You query our servers "behind the scenes"
- You parse the XML document we return to you
- You display your own presentation of the data however you like.
- You do not pay us anything.
- You can start immediately.
While not required, we would appreciate hearing where you integrate this
feed (i.e. email us the url!)
This can also help us better serve you and keep you informed of updates
and changes (particularily to things like the DTD for example)!
